Empowering Women through Yoga
Nawal Omar, a dedicated nurse from Nazareth, was an outstanding participant in the second cohort of the Women’s Entrepreneurship Development (WED) Project. With a lifelong passion for yoga, Nawal dreamed of creating a space where women could find peace, balance, and a deeper connection with themselves. Her journey was shaped by a deep understanding of women’s needs, particularly during the transformative period of pregnancy. As a neonatal intensive care unit nurse, Nawal witnessed firsthand the physical and emotional challenges women face, and she believed that yoga offered a powerful tool for healing and empowerment.
Combining her medical expertise with her knowledge of yoga, Nawal developed a holistic approach that supported women through pregnancy and beyond. Winning the WED grant was a turning point for her. The $6,000 grant allowed her to purchase the equipment and supplies needed to open her yoga studio, turning her dream into a reality.
“Without the grant, I wouldn’t have been able to open my studio,” Nawal says. “The project provided me with the tools and resources I needed to succeed.”
Although Nawal was a nurse with no formal business background, the program provided her with essential knowledge in entrepreneurship, business planning, market research, financial management, and marketing. This foundation helped her successfully launch her business. Additionally, the program guided her in creating a comprehensive business plan, which set clear goals and identified the resources required to achieve them.
Nawal also benefited from ongoing support from experienced entrepreneurs, who guided her through challenges and provided valuable insights. She connected with other successful female entrepreneurs in the West Bank, which inspired her and expanded her professional network.
After completing the program, Nawal conducted numerous workshops in Ramallah and Nablus, and collaborated with the Arab Women’s Association to offer yoga workshops to women, including Siwar Gommed and Rosa Zaher.
The Women’s Entrepreneurship Development (WED) Project played a pivotal role in turning Nawal’s dream into reality, providing her with the skills, knowledge, and support to build a successful and inspiring business. As Nawal continues to grow her business, she remains committed to empowering women and promoting the benefits of yoga. Her story is an inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs and a testament to the power of passion and perseverance.
“Without the grant, I wouldn’t have been able to open my studio,” Nawal says. “The project provided me with the tools and resources I needed to succeed.”
